Day 20 Intro  to Engineering Allen Sam 7-11-18 Activity 8.1 assembly progress (complete), 8.3, 8.4 Conclusion 1.     Why are drawings composed of different line conventions? Different line conventions help identify what shapes or thickness a part of an object has.  2.     What is the purpose of a sectional view? The Sectional view helps reveal what is inside the object in detail.  3.     What is the purpose of an auxiliary view? The auxiliary view can show a slanted view with its true dimensions proportional to the rest of the drawing dimensions.  4.     Why are symbols used instead of words to identify hole types?  Hole types can use counterbore symbols, sink symbols, and a down arrow showing how deep the hole goes through. 5.     What advantage is there to using algebraic equations instead of numerical values when defining the dimensions of a ...

Day 19 Intro to Engineering Allen Sam 7-10-18 Activity 8.3 Auxiliary Views Conclusion 1.     When is an auxiliary view needed? An auxiliary view is need to show the true dimensions of a slanted side   2.     What does the term foreshortened mean? The term foreshortened means that a certain length of a slanted side will be misrepresented when a drawing is displayed through orthographic views.  3.     Why would it be inappropriate to dimension to a feature on a surface that is not perpendicular to the line of sight? It would be inappropriate is dimension a non-perpendicular surface because the lengths will not be proportional to one another in a drawing.

Day 17 Intro to Engineering Allen Sam 7-6-18 Activity 7.6 Apollo 13 Design Brief Client: Apollo  13 Astronauts Designer: NASA Engineers Problem Statement: Apollo's external oxygen tank has overheated and exploded, pretty much crippling the electrical system. Two thirds of the fuel cells have lost. The astronauts are demanding a way for Apollo 13 to safely return home. Design Statement: Design an air cleaning mechanism that would keep the air in the lunar module from developing dangerous levels of carbon dioxide being exhaled by the astronauts themselves. Instruct the astronauts on the design so they can save themselves. Design Criteria: 1. Can be assembled quickly 2. Easy to assemble 3. Requires everyday supplies that can be used for the assembly 4. Saves the astronauts 5. Does not diminish the supply of oxygen 6. Does not affect the fuel supply 7. Does not require to many supplies to the point where it may affect supplies needed for o...
Day 16 Intro to Engineering Allen Sam 7-5-18 Activity 7.5 Engineering Documentation (actual assignment turned in) Conclusion 1.       Why is detailed documentation important in the design of a product?  The detailed documentation is important in the design of a product because it help ensure that every single part of the object is accurate, dimensioned, and correlates with the other parts of an object. 2.       What is the purpose of engineering documentation in reverse engineering?  Engineering documentation is a way to formally produce an idea of an object with the materials and dimensions. They are working drawings. 3.       Do you agree with the Automoblox claim that their vehicles provide opportunities for children to practice creative problems solving, gross and fine motor skills, and visio-spatial processing? Justify your answer with specific examples on how each ...
