Activities 7.1 and 7.2

7.1 Dimensioning Standards

1.      Why is it important to have your drawing dimensioned completely?
It is important to have a drawing dimensioned completely because you need to let a viewer understand all dimensions of a model. Otherwise, manufacturers may not know what dimensions to create when making a product

2.      What is the difference between size dimensions and location dimensions?
Size dimensions tell the distance of two points, but location dimensions say what something is and where it is at on the model.

3.      What is the difference between chain dimensioning and datum dimensioning? Which method generally results in smaller dimensional deviation in manufactured parts?
Chain dimensioning is combining multiple deminesions on one side while datum dimensioning is using one point as a starting point of all dimensions. Datum dimensioning grants greater accuracy because there are many dimensions that will be notated correctly, not be confused, and not have a miscalculation.

4.      What are the similarities and differences between communicating about an object or product part through a dimensioned drawing and through a written description?
Dimension drawing allows the reader to understand what on object will be like in terms of length while written descriptions often times only gives the main shapes of the object.

Activity 7.2 Sectional Views

Conclusion
1.      What do the arrows on a cutting plane line indicate?
The arrows indicate from which direction a section cut is coming from.

2.      What is the difference between a half and a full section?
a half section shows half of the object as a section, and a full section cuts completely through the object to reveal a section.

3.      Are hidden lines shown in a section view?
They can be if there are hidden lines in the view.

4.      What conventions are associated with section lines?
Section lines assume that no isometric or one view sketch can reveal the detail that happens to be inside an object. So, the section view is associated with one view that you can cut through.
