Activity 8.1 assembly progress (complete), 8.3, 8.4

Conclusion
1.    Why are drawings composed of different line conventions?
Different line conventions help identify what shapes or thickness a part of an object has.

2.    What is the purpose of a sectional view?
The Sectional view helps reveal what is inside the object in detail.

3.    What is the purpose of an auxiliary view?
The auxiliary view can show a slanted view with its true dimensions proportional to the rest of the drawing dimensions.

4.    Why are symbols used instead of words to identify hole types?
Hole types can use counterbore symbols, sink symbols, and a down arrow showing how deep the hole goes through.

5.    What advantage is there to using algebraic equations instead of numerical values when defining the dimensions of a CAD model?
Algebraic dimensioning with equations ensures that the dimensioning is always on the same scale.

6.    What three types of constraints can be applied to CAD sketches or models?
There are geometric constraints, numerical constraints, and symmetric constraints.

7.    What advantages do CAD drawings have over paper sketches?
CAD drawings can be much more accurate than sketches and the CAD model can determine more information like volume, surface area, and material.

Activity 8.4 Working Drawings(turned in)

Conclusion
1. Under what circumstances would it be advantageous to pattern a component?
It is advantageous to pattern something when, as a pattern is, the same form repeats many times and you don't want to make every pattern over and over.
2. What is an offset and how is it used?
An offset is just a distance you can set away from a certain object. Certain constraints will use offsets to make some parts of an object visible.
3. What is the difference between a mate and flush constraint?
A mate constraint joins the two chosen areas while a flush constraint aligns the two faces in a collinear fashion.
4. What constraint would you use to place a pin inside a hole?
I would use the insert constraint because it makes the objects easier to choose and fit inside a hole.
5. What is a subassembly?
A subassembly is a part that will be a part in a bigger assembly.
6. What advantages does CAD have over technical sketching?
CAD makes it easier to draw right angles, measure detailed deimensions, and create perfect sketches.
7. If dimensional information can be retrieved from CAD part models, then why do engineers create detail drawings of parts?
The detailed drawings are the first step into expressing an idea. It is important to have the idea expressed as soon as the idea is produced, and sketching is very convenient compared to CAD modeling.
