Activity 2.2 Perspective Sketching

Conclusion Questions

1.    What is a vanishing point?
A vanishing point is a specific point where two lines seem to converge in a two or three dimension drawing.

2.    Aside from the number of vanishing points, what is the difference between a one-point, two-point, and three-point perspective sketch?
The more vanishing points there are, the more realistic a sketch may seem and the more viewpoints you  can see in a sketch.

3.    How does a perspective drawing differ from an isometric drawing of the same object? When would you use a perspective view in lieu of an isometric drawing?
Isometric drawings are proportional to the actual object and have a 3-D look, but perspective views use vanishing points to create a more realistic view of the object from certain perspectives.

Activity 2.4 Multiview Sketching

Conclusion Questions

1.    What is the purpose of construction lines?  Object lines?
Construction lines are an approximation for the size of an object and the shape of it. They can help you figure out the object's proportions. Object lines make the actual thing you are trying to draw. They show most accurately what an object looks like.

2.    What is the purpose of hidden lines and center lines?
Hidden lines imply that there is something behind the main view that is important to the sketch. And center lines show that there is a center of a circle as a hidden view. Both of these lines inform the reader of potential features of an object that are important.

3.    What type of pictorial is shown in the first representation in item 2?  How can you tell?
Item 2 is a multiview perspective drawing because-it focuses on more than one perspective of the object

4.    What type of pictorial view is shown in item 6?  How can you tell?
Item 6 is a one point perspective drawing because it focuses only on the front face and only has two sides shown.

5.    Why would building professionals, such as machinists and contractors, prefer multiview drawings over pictorial drawings?
They would prefer multiview perspective drawings because they need to see what the sketch looks like from different angles. Every detail of a sketch counts, so exposing more angles in a sketch will help make the actual object more accurate.

Activity 2.5 Sketching Practice

Conclusion Questions

1.    What is a technical sketch?  What is an artistic sketch?  How are the two similar and how are they different?
A technical sketch shows the dimension and different parts of an object. But, an artistic sketch shows the aesthetics of an object. They both convey a meaning, but the technical sketch is more for a realistic standpoint and the artistic sketch comes from an emotional one.

2.    How do you envision applying your sketching skills in other classes?
For projects, I want to make props more accurate by implementing multiview perspective sketching. I can also use it to imagine 3-dimensional objects in math class.

3.    How do you envision applying your sketching skills in college?
I think that doing environmental design would be very cool because I love the structures of nature. I can probably design something cool to help our environment out.

4.    How would you teach sketching to a student next year?
I would teach a student by using the vanishing point method because it is simple enough to understand
and can be used in various sketching situations. Tonal shading would also be great because it teaches kids the basics of light shining on different parts of an object
